2010 South Pacific Classic Final Field & Preview

April 14th, 2010

This Saturday the esteemed Royal Randwick Racecourse are set to host one of their biggest day of racing during the Sydney autumn carnival, Doncaster Mile Day.

As part of the day’s race card, three terrific Group 1 features will star and to accompany these the $125,000 Group 3 South Pacific Classic (1400m) will also take place.

This year the 2010 South Pacific Classic will be contested by 15 three-year-olds including three from the stables of leading trainer Peter Snowden.

Snowden has runners at both ends of the field, with his improving Lonhro colt Demerit drawn wide in barrier 14 aiming for his third win from just six starts, and the consistent Rarefied jumping from the ideal barrier one.

Khas Kura is Snowden’s third South Pacific Classic contender, also drawn well in barrier three.

Other quality gallopers include last start winner of the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) Neeson in barrier six, Todd Howlett’s promising gelding Star Of Octagonal starting from barrier seven with champion hoop Golden Boss aboard, and High Chaparral gelding Our Billy Blue having just his second career start after winning on debut out wide in barrier ten.

The 2010 Bacardi South Pacific Classic is scheduled as race three on Saturday and is due to commence at 1:40pm (NSW time). Later in the day the three Group 1 races will take place.

First the $350,000 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) for fillies will run as race five, followed by the headline event the $1.5 million Doncaster Mile (1600m) featuring the talented Typhoon Tracy, and then race seven is the $300,000 The Galaxy (1100m).
